I think a CMS implemented in wicket is a logical extension of the whole 'developers should be writing code' idealogy. If we could abstract the content out of our applications (kinda) and let it be managed by the users, that would only make the application that much more dynamic and managable.
People coming from JSP hell will probably not like the idea of having to create a class for every new page they want to create. The CMS would be a big selling point for those people. Who wouldn't want to abstract all the content out of their application to be managed by the users. Those hundreds of JSPs they were managing disappear and the application is more dynamic and managable. I can take the lead on this project. If you are interested in being a stakeholder for the project, shoot me an e-mail. Our first step is to gather requirements. There are websites that have matrixes of CMS features. We can look at those lists and compile a subset of features. The frameworks used will be: Wicket, Spring and Hibernate. Any ideas for a content repository? Graffito and Jack Rabbit look interesting, but I hope they aren't projects stuck in XML hell. Thoughts anyone else?
