Hi all, As some of you might have noticed, we started working on Wicket 2.0.
It is very much work in progress, and it will be like that for a few weeks for sure, but some of the biggest changes have already been made. I started a migration document about this (developers, please keep that up-to-date) and put the two largests changes in there. The best way to help Wicket out with the new features is to test it and discuss about it. The constructor change, while enabling some new ways of doing things that are especially cool for rich (javascript enabled) components, also has the effect that you can't do some things that were possible before. In effect, that is creating component instances up-front. Also, the replacement or Component.replace (Component.reAttach) might take a bit to get used to. Please contact the mailing list or ##wicket on freenode.net if you have questions on how to migrate best. At this time we don't have a set time frame in mind to start pumping out 2.0 releases. But my guess is that - depending on how hard it is worked on and how much help we get - we should be able to do this within a few weeks. The effect of the changes are drastic in some areas and it is a lot of (boring) work to implement them, but we've had the changes in mind for a long time, and the meat of it all are really two things: parameterized types for models and components and the constructor change. We're hoping for you help, and of course we hope that you'll like Wicket 2.0 Eelco ------------------------------------------------------- All the advantages of Linux Managed Hosting--Without the Cost and Risk!
