Yes, it's easy to do something before the call using the callbackdecorator. I have actually implemented a calendar with drag'n'drop selection of a period. When the user then clicks on a AjaxLink I have decorated the call to first change the Ajax request url with some additional parameters from the selected range in the calendar.
I would actually like to hear about such a usecase where one can't just use Wicket timer or call decoration.
