but when we will have 3 main development streams: 1.2, 1.3 and 2.0

What I'm proposing is not to branch a development stream, but to tick
off releases from a main development stream, requiring us not to
switch to other directories:

With the literal names:
    trunk/wicket-1.x
    trunk/wicket-2.x
or
    trunk/
    branches/wicket-1.x

The following is NOT what I'm proposing:
    trunk/wicket-1.2
    trunk/wicket-1.3
    trunk/wicket-2.0
    trunk/wicket-2.1

I think the former communicates the best intent for the repository
structure: 1.x and 2.x are both under active development, and both
their HEAD's can be found in trunk.
