Good thing about setVisible is that it won't give you back-button troubles, as all components - be them visible or not - will be reachable, whereas when you replace a panel, the replaced panel will not be reachable.

another better option might be to just hide/show two panels.  call
setVisible(true) on the one you want showing and setVisible(false) on
the other one.
