Maybe we could even say goodbye to the Hibernate 2 version? Would mean
much less maintenance (I think what Phil committed is Hibernate 3 only
anyway.

I think this is a killer!
do you want me to create a xdoc version of this and create a
wicket-stuff site for the data binding projects? Or do you wish to do
that yourself?
I think they should be all in the same site structure, not in 3
through N sites. I was thinking about:
http://wicket-stuff.sf.net/wicket-databinding (project
documentation, your article, etc)
http://wicket-stuff.sf.net/wicket-databinding/hibernate2 (just the
build/release docs, nothing fancy)
http://wicket-stuff.sf.net/wicket-databinding/hibernate3 (dito)
http://wicket-stuff.sf.net/wicket-databinding/cayenne (dito) (when
someone picks this up)
etc.

If anyone would like to read my little writup, possibly try out the
demo app, and give me feedback, I'd apreciate it. I would have put
this on the Wiki, but I wanted to include screenshots so that people
wouldn't have to run the app to see what I was talking about. This is
in CVS as well, in wicket-contrib-data and then the Hibernate data
source classes are at wicket-contrib-hibernate-3.0. Thanks!
