The best way to use the update the 1.0 version of the abstractvalidator is to set the formcomponent back to null if you leave the validate method.

The validator thing doesn't have to be backported. It breaks the API, and I think that the problem is not too important or high profile. There is a way around the issue. I think that the security issue concerning calling listeners on invisible components, raised earlier on the list, should be addressed in 1.0, when it is considered to be a threat. I'm not a security guy, so I can't say whether the threat is real or not. Other than the security issue, I can't see anything that should be backported into 1.0 at this moment.
