#1 reason for Wicket to stand out as a framework should be how easy it
is to create create webapplications with (reusable) components. JDK5
features can help with this but are not a goal in its own.
If retroweaver works, we might explore that, though none of Wicket's
current developers will be happy with another thing to maintain. I spend
about 30-50hrs a week free time on Wicket, and other Wicket devs spend
about the same, but there's a limit to what we can pick up.
Currently our major focus is are to get all the little improvements and
fixes in there, write documentation and examples, work on ajax, work on
portlet integration, getting Wicket known to a broader audience and
answering this list (which is actually the largest sucker of time).
I like some 1.5 features and, more importantly, I believe some of them
can help users of Wicket write better app faster, but it is just not
high on our list right now. Maybe if someone steps up who is willing to
support it, it will be, but for now please open an RFE and we'll take a
look at it later.

PS: All the claims for problems with retroweaver ppl telling lately
are not stable. I don't see where the problem would be to thake
advantage of the great 1.5 features. Especialy generics and
annotations may be the key thing that finaly completly distinguishes
wicket from other web frameworks...

IMHO it is time for a web framework that truely supports J2SE 5.
Instead of trying to stay backward compatible at all costs, you
should instead lead in making use of the advantages of generics (&
annotations). They will prove to be an advantage especially for a Java
centric framework like Wicket.
Retroweaver can be used to create a 1.4.2 compatible version of the
framework.
