Sorry Phil, I actually missed your message before sending the second one so
thats why I couldn't provide you with answer to your question.

The good news is that the problem is solved! It was a bug in the CMS
software that quoted the external url's twice(<a
href=""http://www.foo.com""/>foo</a>). It's corrected and things are now
working like a charm.
