I think the request is for a captcha, one of those images with characters too difficult for machine vision, but reasonably easy for a person to interpret. They are used to prevent automatic form-filling by programs.

There are probably many easy-to-integrate FOSS components someone could hook in. I may have a little time next week and this might be a simple introduction for me to writing components. (No guarantees, of course.)
