I am still thinking that we just always have to escape all attributes that we output
i think this is needed to alway create valid html.
(like <input type="text" value="not escaped stuff...">)
But then the problem is that we can do it more then once (which can't happen because the & is escaped again)
So we have to move all calls to escapeMarkup and only do it in a few places.

just create a transformer behavior and attach it to the component. I was
just looking for an easy way to intercept the response and escape the
&'s in the wicket Link hrefs.
