i ran the tests in the 1.2 branch, try a clean check out and run mvn clean test

sure what the 1.2 branch is for... I thought that was supposed to be the
stable 1.2 branch, and trunk would now be going off on another direction
in preparation for 1.3, or 2.0, or whatever.

1.2 branch is for development of 1.2.1+ releases, but not necessarily stable because until a release it is a work in progress. the only stable thing about this branch will be the api and even that is only guaranteed 99%.
