It doesn't go back for every change, but only if you click somewhere else or tab out of the field. See http://msdn.microsoft.com/workshop/author/dhtml/reference/events/onchange.asp So I think if you attach AjaxFormComponentUpdatingBehavior to your textfield with the onchange even, you have what you want.
