It's not that strange. :)

The confirmation dialog is displayed when you are about to leave/reload 
the page while the modal dialog is still opened.

The expiration page is such case - when wicket was going to redirect to 
the expiration page (because of the cookie problem) the modal dialog was 
still there, therefore the warning. Now that you've cleaned the cookies, 
the page expiration no longer happens, so wicket doesn't want to 
redirect to expired page, thus no confimation.
