I don't mind keeping it.  We just ought to restrict/define its usage
precisely and advertise that we support that usage.  Personally, I think the
only reasonable usage is to instantiate a component that (a) takes no
parameters and (b) is never referenced in the Java code.  That would make
sense.  However, I really can't think of too many use cases for that.
