I have googled a little bit but have not found a good way to figure out which flags are supported on a compiler. Most projects seem to distinguish by compiler name and select their flags this way - of course this is suboptimal because you never know which version of the compiler the user has.
I merged this branch now. Let's see who will fix the warnings :).
