I asked at https://answers.launchpad.net/launchpad/+question/245296 what to do.
If I interpret the answer correctly, then dh_auto_build should do the parallel building automatically even without --parallel if the build setup process configured it accordingly, which is all done automatically. This would mean, if this all is correct, interpreting the build log, that the builders are configured to run without parallel compiling. Now I could also be totally wrong.
