This list still exists because everybody can subscribe to it. The Launchpad 
list is only readable/writable for people that are part of the dev team. We 
restrict this a bit, since being part of the dev team comes with push to trunk 
rights which can be very destructive if done incorrectly.

It would be open to everybody again and more modern than the terrible mailman 
interface that sourceforge uses. Also, it would allow to collaborate on docs & 
drive more easily as they can be shared with a google group. I am a big fan of 
collaborating on docs - and I think that the move from github doc has shown how 
valuable that can be.
