Ok... I've got some questions in to Matt Cutts over at Google. Matt's pretty much the highest authority to consult over there (other than Larry and Sergei). If Matt can't figure it out we'll have Jimmy forward this to Larry and Sergei.
My guess is that they just put out another revision to their indexer and so we're seeing changes...
