Just giving some more input.

We moved from having one 4 cpu master and one 8 cpu slave. Read were
distributed between them.

The new setup has a 2 core master dedicated to just writes and 3 8
cpu slaves with 16GB ram each dedicated for reading.

The 16 new CPUs are also quite a bit faster. So effectively we have
slightly more than tripled the available database power.

We recently did was to start using a CDN (content distribution
network) named Panther-Express. So all /common/ files get cached out
there and gets sent back from the closest host. All other files are
cached, but their servers do an if-modified-since at least once a
second against our backend.

Another user visible change is that on Friday we are moving image
serving of the wikia.com domain name. Images are going to be served
from images.wikia.nocookie.net , there is no need to send any cookie
data for the images, so to reduce bandwidth we are serving it from
another top level.

I hope no more of the upcoming changes are going to result in any
scheduled downtime for at least a month or so.

Cheers
Artur
