The poor setup of the gateway is starting to get annoying in #wikia. We
get users asking us questions on everything from Runescape, to Dofus, to
Yu-Gi-Oh! all because they can't figure out that they joined the general
channel instead of the wiki's channel. Not only that but half them can't
even figure out how to get to the other channel when we directly tell
them something like [If you're looking for RSWik's chatroom, say "/join
#rswiki"].

It's a simple change to make it so that channels can be automatically
selected.
Can we please get some small bit of code in the PHP of the gateway at
http://irc.wikia.com to read the Fragment after the # and use that to
select a channel if it's there.

The idea is that linking to http://irc.wikia.com/#Gaiapedia would
automatically put a selects="selected" in the <option/> for the
#Gaiapedia channel. That way the IRC pages for wiki like the RSWiki can
instead link to http://irc.wikia.com/#RSWiki and have that channel
automatically selected so that new users don't end up coming to #wikia
and saying that they are in a channel about runescape when they are in a
general Wikia help channel.
