The main thing that discourages me from using is knowing that other visitors won't not see a Wikipedia-like "Monobook" or "Standard" skin when they visit a wiki for the first time.
My experience is this: - I think of writing something on Wikia, so I come, - Frequently my intent is to write something so that I could show to other people, so that they could contribute. - The best way to explain the principles of the site to the people I know is to refer to the well-known Wikipedia,.. so I start wanting to make the page look at least a little bit more Wikipedia-like. - Then, after realizing that it's impossible, I give up thinking of writing it at all. ...and thinking: why on earth one need to pursue the unification of the style of wikis accross the site?... Is that some way of branding the site? Does branding really matters so much as to require a full-blown skin remake to be imposed accross the site without the choice to opt-out?
