As long as the subject of administrator powers is brought up, I'd like to ask if it can ever be possible to promote/demote administrators through a means other than a bureaucrat (such as a nomination/vote process among autoconfirmed users). I've seen too many wikis where there is one dictator in the bureaucrat's seat making decisions that drive others away. At the same time, I've seen many wikis where none of the remaining editors have that power or a way to gain it, and have to wait for someone to be deemed worthy of adopting the wiki (which is difficult when more than one person contribute actively).
