           Summary: People articles with single category sort incorrectly on
                    category lists
           Product: MediaWiki
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: All
        OS/Version: All
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: Normal
         Component: Categories
        AssignedTo: [email protected]
        ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

(I searched and couldn't find this)

It appears that when an article about a person has a single actual category tag
(ie. ([Category:foobar]]), on the category page itself that lists all the
people, the article will sort by first name on the list, instead of last name
like those articles with multiple categories.

For example, I'm currently adding articles on people to [[Category:TED
Speakers]]. But for articles that didn't previously already have an category,
such as:

* Kristen Ashburn
* David Bolinsky

These sorted by their first name on the TED Speakers page. I was able to work
around this by adding a pipe and their surname to the end of the category, but
it's still annoying.

NOTE: I say "ACTUAL category" above, because while David Bolinsky has only the
single category I added, he has other stub tags that append categories to his
article. But it would still sort incorrectly (without the workaround).
