long text inside a pre tag doesn't wrap and makes a long, one line high line
that forces a long horizontal scrollbar. tested in safari 5.1.1 and firefox
7.0.1 on mac os x 10.6.

possible fix is to make the pre tag's style white-space:pre-wrap
