Timo: Yeah, though the interwiki transclusion system introduces additional
layers of complexity that haven't yet been fully examined. It's currently
targeted to receive a more comprehensive review around March 2012 at which
point we'll get a good sense of how realistic a near term roll-out of that is.

If we have a standard format for the links it should be relatively
straightforward to migrate in the event we want to use a consolidated
transclusion system later, no? And it seems to me that regardless of the
transclusion mechanism, we'd want to have 1) a nice UI for managing the links,
2) a standard format for parsing them that's a bit more flexible and expressive
than "a bunch of links or templates next to each other".

In any case, IMO the only way the Interlanguage extension will realistically
receive some love in the near future is if the i18n team decides to take it on.
Siebrand will deliver an initial review on that within a couple of weeks.
