I did a few more tests to see if section headers were the sole culprits or whether it was some combination with other forms of wiki syntax which triggered the bug. The latter now appears to be the case. The page loads again if either all references (<ref>...</ref>) and reference lists (<reference />) or all section heades (at least h2 and h3, not yet sure about h1) are removed. Or both of course.
