Have a look at this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:BBC.png
File:BBC.png doesn't exist in enWP. In Commons, File:BBC.png redirects to
File:Blackberry_Circle_pentacle.png and if you go to
http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:BBC.png you correctly get
redirected and see an subtitle stating "(Redirected from File:BBC.png)".
However, in local projects, you don't get that subtitle, which causes
confusion.
