Those are strip markers.

What about if you just use the extension as is, with the version of GeSHi we
bundle? That is also version 1.0.8.10. I'm not sure if we actually support
GeSHi from PEAR...

I'm not sure what you're trying to do with that syntax, we use syntaxhighlight
or similar.
