             Bug #: 38015
Summary: Preference for Wikipedia language versions in user
                    account settings, desktop and mobile
           Product: MediaWiki
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: All
        OS/Version: All
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: Unprioritized
         Component: User preferences
        AssignedTo: [email protected]
        ReportedBy: [email protected]
                CC: [email protected]
    Classification: Unclassified
   Mobile Platform: ---

One of the preferences that makes sense for user accounts is preferred language
versions of Wikipedia. This has been requested by many users and is a
straightforward usability enhancement. On the mobile side, the goal is to
expose certain account settings after a user logs in, and language versions is
one of the most important.

This is not the same as the Wikipedia Language preference that changes the
chrome of the desktop site. Instead, this is about navigating between language
versions of Wikipedia and pre-selecting the few versions that a user typically
uses.

Here is how this could look in a settings screen:

Preferred language versions:
drop-down menu
drop-down menu
drop-down menu

Then these languages would appear at the top of the list of languages when the
user chooses a language (on mobile there will be two places). The design is up
to the designers involved, but as an example, for inter-wiki links, the
languages that match these preferences would appear at the top, if those
languages are available for that article.
