Bug #: 38304
Summary: Squashing of whitespace for languages that uses double
whitespace
Product: MediaWiki extensions
Version: unspecified
Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: Unprioritized

When whitespace is squashed it is now reduced to a single whitespace. In some
languages it is allowed (and common) to use a double space in some cases. This
is not handled in well in squashWhitespace(), which compresses all whitespace
into a single space.
A solution could be to to leave double spaces as they are but compress all
other sequences. This could be allowed on a per language basis. Such double
spacing seems to be associated with sentence terminators, and as there is room
for a short paragraph in the description, this can be a problem.
Unless there are clear indication that this is critically wrong I propose we
use whitespace compression into a single whitespace for now.
