extension fails to load properly

We recently upgraded from 1.18 to 1.19.1 and now the multiboilerplate extension
fails to load properly. The legend seems to have double htmlentities. like so: 
&lt;multiboilerplate-legend&gt; <multiboilerplate-label>

MediaWiki 1.19.1
PHP 5.3.3 (apache2handler)
MySQL 5.1.61
