He started the other discussion later. At that later discussion there seemed to be some agreement that something was needed in order to have some kind of overview of the 106,000 gallery pages. Please reread the later discussion at Commons:Categories_for_discussion to understand the problem. It is the main discussion: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Categories_for_discussion/2012/07/Category:Gallery_pages#Category:Gallery_pages It is not about the awareness of the main namespace. We are aware of it. It is about being able to browse the titles of the many gallery pages in that main namespace in some comprehensible way. One possibility might be to categorize all gallery pages in a flat category. But that is not so easy to browse. Even with Template:LargeCategoryTOC. And it is not in a category tree format that way. So it would be nice if some kind of way could be created in MediaWiki to show gallery page titles in some kind of browseable category tree format. I am open to ideas.
