I had a stab at this but it makes quite a big change to the desktop site by
shifting the search box underneath the Wikipedia logo -

I think this is more useful (I'd love to know if there has been any analysis on
how the homepage is used...)

When we had this discussion earlier (see bug 30389) we decided the search box
should be at the top of the page - so why should this not be the case for the
desktop site?

The reason we are seeing issues like this one is because we are having to hack
the search box using absolute positioning in CSS to be above the list of
languages.

What do people think of this new design?
