It's unclear to me what the best path forward is here and I'm hoping others will chime in with their thoughts on the mailing list. It's completely possible that this bug will end up marked as "wontfix" again, though. I listed a number of feasible options to resolve this bug, but there may be (developer) consensus that this really is a "wontfix" situation.
