             Bug #: 42488
Summary: CentralNotice should stop using the MediaWiki
                    namespace
           Product: MediaWiki extensions
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: All
        OS/Version: All
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: Unprioritized
         Component: CentralNotice
        AssignedTo: [email protected]
        ReportedBy: [email protected]
                CC: [email protected], [email protected]
    Classification: Unclassified
   Mobile Platform: ---

The CentralNotice extension currently uses the MediaWiki namespace for storage.
Today, Meta-Wiki has 53,320 pages in the MediaWiki namespace; of those, 51,147
begin with "Centralnotice".

Because they're in the MediaWiki namespace, these pages are polluting the
message cache. Tim thinks the extension might actually be using the message
cache, though. So if a possible solution is moving these pages into a protected
CentralNotice namespace on Meta-Wiki, a (separate) caching system has to be
considered if it's currently in use.

And of course no real major work can be done on the extension during the annual
fundraiser.
