Yes, this. I'd recommend a slow roll-out of this feature, with notification to the projects, but more importantly, some kind of Google-esque "we've changed the UI... don't like it? [click here] to change your user preferences back to the old UI" temporary notice. Temporary being a month or so. I'd also probably not take two shots at once, particularly as the second shot is so unexpected. This bug is about Special:RecentChanges only, as far as I can tell, but <https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/49082> is currently changing both Special:RecentChanges and Special:Watchlist.
