Because otherwise the logs make no sense at all: they don't even for sysops,
except that they have a workaround. With a mention of the revision, I can know
what actually happened (a general picture, for instance revision X was modified
by A and then by B), ask clarifications to the sysop if needed, choose a
meaningful link to the logs or to the revision to mention the action (and ask
something about it) etc.
