The request makes sense although I'm not sure about the importance. What is the usefulness? Setting as Low unless someone has a better argument. Also, is it a MediaWiki core feature? Not many 3rd party MediaWikis have the setup to use those language links, and in the Wikimedia context they are being handled now by Wikidata.
