I was wondering whether to propose solving as much of bug 44881 (wider one, about Vector skin & extension issues in general) as possible for a GSOC project, but I'm not sure if it would make sense - the bugs there cover an extremely wide spectrum and often are non-actionable or would require some careful design work.
