We would like to remove the 'Web display' preference that lets users choose
whether or not they want to see the notifications badge next to their name in
their user menu, using a check box.
The feature requirements for this preference are posted here:

Based on team discussions about this feature, we no longer plan to include in
the first release of Notifications, because it would set a bad precedent of
having to support old versions of the software.
However, if we get strong requests from the community for this feature, we may
consider making it available temporarily, while we improve the tool -- with the
understanding that this would only be for a few months and old notifications
will be retired and replaced with the new tool.
For now, let's remove this preference option.
