Although in theory the pixel data from a raw image file could be stored in a
PNG/TIFF, with transparent pixels for missing pixels, the main problem with
using PNG/TIFF is that there really isn't any existing raw image processing
software which accepts images in this format. If we want to be compatible with
existing software, really our only choices are either DNG or *all* proprietary
formats - if we're not compatible, we'd have to include some kind of converter
or something.
