I don't understand how Google was able to index these pages. Isn't the page
content restricted to specific IP addresses? How was Googlebot able to index
the page content?

While it's difficult to test, it appears that pages such as
<http://en.zero.wikipedia.org/wiki/Britney_Spears> do not have a "noindex"
directive within them.
