Summary: Differentiating logged-in and logged-out editing via CSS
           Product: MediaWiki
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: All
        OS/Version: All
            Status: NEW
          Severity: enhancement
          Priority: Normal
         Component: Page editing
        AssignedTo: [email protected]
        ReportedBy: [email protected]

At present on enwiki, a user who edits a protected page is made aware of the
fact because the text box is tinted red via CSS when they edit, if the page is
protected. This was very successful in cutting down accidental "editing through
protection" issues.

A common problem is when users who normally edit logged in, accidentally edit
logged out, exposing their IP and often requiring suppression.

Can CSS elements be added to the editing page, that depend on whether a user is
logged-in or logged-out and apply CSS to the edit box if so? The benefit of
this would be that users who wish to avoid accidentally editing logged-out,
could set up their monobook.css to shade the edit box if they are logged in,
which would make it immediately apparent to them (by lack of shading) if they
clicked on an "edit" tab when accidentally logged out.

Alternatively it would allow a mediawiki site (WMF or other) to shade the edit
box for logged-in or logged-out users, making it clear to all whether they were
logged in or not upon editing.

Cost of this: adding a CSS id to the edit page that changes depending whether
the user is logged in or not.
