The primary benefit is laying the groundwork for contributor-created audio to MediaWiki sites in any current browser. I have a done a little bit of research on the method to upload the pronunciations so far and based on that the use of the Upload:API is essential, other API's like the Edit:API will also come handy. The first step that I plan on doing is to add .wav support to the THM extension.
