I had encountered this a while back:
Loading http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Mike.lifeguard/Screencasts gives a
white page. Brion did some investigation back in the day and said (IIRC) that
viewing the page pulls file metadata, which can cause an out-of-memory
condition when the files are very large.
I guess the solution means loading metadata without pulling the whole file into
memory, or not loading metadata (if that's possible).
