I don't this it's VE's fault, although I've seen similar stuff with another extension (FoxLingo): [[m:en:Wikipedia:VisualEditor/Feedback/Archive_2013_07#Inserting_weird_script_tag_stuff]]. Actually, might be a more general bug, as these diffs have many similarities.
