The visual editor will, when italicising text, create a new, redundant pipe for
the wikilink to apply the italics to.
An example (because my description is pretty awful):
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Prisoner%27s_dilemma&diff=572732066&oldid=572542499
You can see that it does [[Foo|''Foo'']], which of course should be ''[[Foo]]''
for conciseness.
