Although it can't be used in articles, it is widely used elsewhere, including
userpages.
If you try and VEdit
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Elitre_(WMF)/Sandbox&oldid=573626556
you'll notice that this reflects in reference numbering being incorrect, since
the ones in the divbox will be ignored.
