I'm sorry the preference is currently confusing but you have the highest freedom in translating it. If for instance a language happened to have a single word/linguistic construction depending on gender, and that word happened to be something like rabbit vs rabbitess, you could still translate the question as: If Nemo_bis was an oryctolagus cuniculus, Nemo_bis would be * whatever * a rabbitess * a rabbit And, sure, the question is highly unlikely hence most people would select the default "whatever".
